Since a few years I play in a jazz 7tet. We play a variety of songs ranging from
Cannonball Adderley to Frank Zappa. Besides this we have some very prolific writers in the
band. The band strives to play well known songs in a slightly different way. This is
accomplished by intricate harmonisations or surprising arrangements. All the songs are
arranged by the band themselves.
Except for the instrumental tracks we also have vocal pieces.
Demeter released up to now two CDs, the first one entitled "Demeter Walks Out".
and the second one "Tuning The Tune"
Demeter consists of
Jasper plays all kinds of saxophones, ranging from soprano to tenor. Coming from a
classical background he is quickly developing into an allround jazz player. Lately
he also started writing and arranging new pieces.
Pjotr is one of the writers for the band. His compositions are characterized by unusual
meters (15/8, 5/4 etc.), and a very major flavour. He plays all kinds of saxophones, flute
and all kinds of ethnic instruments (e.g. the peruvian kena ). The newest
addition is the mouth-harp.
Han is the other writer for the band. He arranged most of the more conventional
repertoire. Besides this he plays the trumpet and flugelhorn.
Jaap plays the bass. As nestor he is responsible for the steady rythmic and melodic
foundation. He has a fenomenal knowledge of jazz, and knows all the funny anecdotes about
virtually every jazz musician.
Elbert plays piano and is a really allround musician. His styles range from
a Wynton Kelly like swing to Michael Camilo latin. Very notable is the
impressionistic way of playing. Beside a fine musician he's also an excellent
accompanying player.
Tjarko is the former drummer. His background ranged from eastern european music (Bulgarian,
Macedonian) through pop to bebop. His interest was in the blending of all these different
musical styles.
Pieter is the new drummer of Demeter, succeeding Tjarko. Having played all kinds of music he is quite fit to take the drummer's position in the band.
Erik plays various types of percussion. With Demeter he plays mainly conga.But
sometimes you can see him playing the slit-drum.
Adri is the sound engineer of the band. Beside being excellent behind the mixing desk he's also guitarist with
Crusade.
